Once a color palette has been defined for oppositional words, each student undergoes investigation composition in various steps. Each step prioritizes color as the primary element communicating each word. Additional variables such as shape (form), texture, gradient and typographic elements are built into layouts. Color palettes and their communication of oppositional words are fully realized through abstract color blocking, form and use of typographic elements.
Each palette investigation is based on the specific rules of color harmony. Multiple unique variations of each harmony are developed to find different expressions of color and different emotive qualities of each specific harmony. Palette variations are then further refined to explore how subtle differences in hue, value, and saturation can build balanced relationships between each swatch.
